BREAKING: Facebook is currently experiencing global outages, with millions of users unable to access the social media site. Not only are Facebook’s apps and services down, its internal tools and communications aren’t working either. In fact, according to NYMag, employees are unable to access the company building doors because their badges aren’t working.
The issue appears to be some sort of “DNS” issue, although Facebook has not yet confirmed the reason for the outage. (Domain Name Systems are the hierarchical naming system for computers and Internet systems. CBS explains: “The DNS is essentially the internet’s phone book, directing users to specific sites and platforms.”) When this will be resolved is unclear. But in the meantime, check out this piece that I began writing nearly two years ago about why Facebook and I are done.
