Singer Trey Songz has turned himself in to police on an assault charge.
According to Vibe, Songz (whose real name is Tremaine Neverson) surrendered at a NYPD station this morning. He’s accused of hitting two people in the face while at a bowling alley in October. TMZ reported that he allegedly punched a woman in the face while inside a bowling alley bathroom. The new info is there’s a second alleged victim, a guy who claims Neverson punched him in the eye.
Just last month, Neverson avoided charges in a civil rape case. Complex reports that his legal team determined the statute of limitations had run out. An anonymous woman known as Jane Doe filed a $20 million lawsuit earlier this year, claiming Neverson raped her at his home in 2016. The alleged assault left her with “tearing that could require surgery”.
Sexual Misconduct
And in March, news broke that he’d been accused of sexual misconduct — again. Megan Johnson accused Songz of sexually assaulting her during an August 2013 party at Foxwood Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. Video has emerged that shows Songz pulling back Johnson’s top, exposing her breast, and saying: “T–ties in the open!”
Johnson filed a $5 million lawsuit. According to Complex, Johnson’s team says she was embarrassed by the incident. And she’s seeking damages over lasting emotional distress and self-harm. Attorneys George Vrabeck and Ariel Mitchell sent Songz a letter that accused Songz of sexual assault and battery with “a reckless disregard for her safety.” The letter also reminds him of the numerous allegations already made against him.
“I am sure this letter does not come as a surprise to you,” the message to Songz reads. “One woman may have been mistaken, but it is unlikely that the 12+ women that have made complaints about you, including our four clients, were also mistaken. Ms. Johnson is certainly not mistaken. Perhaps the enclosed video will refresh your recollection and illustrate the certainty of your negligent and reckless behavior.”
History
It’s certainly not the first — or the second — time that the singer has been accused of assault or even rape. Less than two weeks before, Songz was cleared in an investigation of an alleged sexual assault from November 2021. The Las Vegas Police Department declined to indict Neverson for an incident at a hotel in the 3700 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard.
The spokesman for the police department addressed the charges. “The LVMPD has conducted the investigation into the sexual assault allegations against Tremaine Neverson and determined that no criminal charges will be filed,” the rep told PEOPLE magazine. “If any new evidence comes to light, the case will be reopened for further investigation.”
In January 2022, Neverson was hit with another accusation stemming from Las Vegas. According to the Daily Beast, former University of Nevada basketball player Dylan Gonzalez hired an attorney to represent her in a sexual assault case against Trey Songz, claiming he raped her.
“With what seems like endlessly recurring news of the alleged sexual assault committed by Trey Songz, I am forced to repeatedly relive in my mind, and suffer anew, the long-suppressed horror and unbearable PTSD of my rape by his very hands at a well-known Las Vegas Hotel,” Gonzalez wrote in a statement. She included a message to assault survivors.
“I want to send my love, strength, and hope to all who are victims of sexual assault and its fatal nature. You are not alone,” Gonzalez wrote. “I stand with you and encourage all those who have suffered abuse to speak out and come forward. Suppression of our voices only emboldens our oppressors, and you cannot heal what you do not reveal.”
“At this time, I humbly request my privacy, consideration and compassion while I fully commit to pursue the best course of action and all of my legal options,” Gonzalez’s statement concluded.
The Daily Beast clarified that the alleged rape took place around nine years ago and that Gonzalez’s claim is separate from the alleged sexual assault case that the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police was then investigating.
Songz denied Gonzalez’s claim in a statement through his team. “Trey and his team are confident in the legal process and that there will be an abundance of exonerating information to come over the next few weeks.”
“No Jumper”
In August 2020, Neverson responded to yet another allegation of violence & sexually predatory behavior — the fourth in the past two years. This time it was in response to model Aliza, a friend of fellow OnlyFans model Celina Powell. Aliza detailed her explosive claims in an interview on the podcast No Jumper. According to her, the trouble began after a consensual encounter with Neverson in a hotel room.
“I got to the bathroom to wipe the nut off my face, like, in between rounds,” she began. “He followed me in there. He’s like: ‘Get in the bathtub.’ I’m like, ‘OK.’ So I do,” Aliza recalled on the podcast. “And I’m, like, laying down. He’s standing over me — like, jacking off. And he’s like, ‘Play with your p—y. I’m like, ‘OK.’ So I do. And he’s like, ‘Play with your t–s.’ So I do. And he literally just peed on me,” she revealed. “I was like, ‘What the f–k? On my eyelashes?’ And he’s like: ‘You’re fine’,” she remembered.
“Trey got mad at me for talking about it,” she continued. “But I don’t give a f–k.” She added that she may not be the only woman who has such experience with the singer. “But every b–ch I know that has f–ked him says the same s–t.”
“That he pees on ’em?” asked No Jumper host Adam 22.
“Yeah,” Aliza answered. “And he’s psycho. Like, he took my phone and my purse away for like, a whole day, held it over the balcony. And he was like, ‘Bitch, if you’re trying to leave, I’m gonna drop this s–t.’ He did the same thing to her,” Aliza said, indicating Powell.
Response
Neverson responded to the allegations on Twitter. He tweeted screenshots of texts between him and Aliza, discussing sex. The photos he tweeted displayed her phone number, according to Vulture. “Y’all stay ready to believe a bird,” Neverson tweeted. He added:
But this isn’t the first allegation of misconduct that Neverson has faced. A woman sued him in January, according to The Blast. Court documents obtained by The Blast accuse him of trying to “insert his fingers inside Jane Doe’s vagina without her consent or permission” after placing his hand under his dress. The incident occurred at a Miami nightclub. The accuser later found another woman in the club who had a similar encounter with Neverson that same night. (She sued for assault, battery, negligence, and “intentional infliction of emotional distress”.)
Domestic Violence
In March 2018, Neverson was arrested for domestic violence. According to the Los Angeles Times, the unidentified victim claimed that he attacked her on a Saturday morning at a rented Hollywood Hills mansion. Attorney Lisa Bloom issued a statement saying Neverson became enraged after the victim started talking to one of his friends.
“He called her names, choked her and repeatedly punched her in the face,” Bloom’s statement read. “When she took out her phone to call an Uber to get out of there, he threw her phone off a cliff to prevent her from leaving. She took out a second phone and he threw that off a cliff as well.” An LAPD spokeswoman confirmed that detectives were investigating a domestic violence incident involving the singer. Neverson turned himself in to authorities in March, but the case was dismissed in May.
KeKe Palmer
Actress Keke Palmer accused Neverson of “sexual intimidation” in 2017. She further charged that she was filmed without her consent. According to Palmer, she was at a New Year’s Eve party in Miami when she realized cameras were around. It turned out that Neverson was filming a music video for his song “Pick Up the Phone”. Palmer was repeatedly asked to take part in the video. She refused.
“I said first no to the producer, then said no to the assistant, then said no to Trey,” she told Larry King in a January 2017 interview. “And then said it again when I came out the closet.” (She later wrote a lengthy post on Instagram saying that she hid in a closet to avoid further conflict with Neverson.)
“How am I in this video Trey? After you found me in a closet HIDING because I was so afraid of anymore conflict. Literally my last option was to hide because you all would not listen when I said I did not want to be in the video the FIRST time. Just cause you give someone food and alcohol and throw in a little sexual intimidation doesn’t mean they will buckle,” she wrote.
King asked her to elaborate on what she meant by “sexual intimidation”. Palmer replied: “I feel, as a female, often I’m put in situations where sometimes males will use their masculinity, their sexuality, to taunt you.”
