Lizzo and Cardi B have teamed up for a new song. Lizzo’s new track “Rumors” addresses the gossip that has spread about them recently. Lizzo’s lyrics contain her usual blend of unapologetic confidence and blunt, brassy raunch.
“All the rumors are true, yeah/What you heard that’s true, yeah/I’ll f–k him and you, yeah/If you believe I do that,” she sings. “Last year, I thought I would lose it /Reading s–t on the Interney/My smoothie cleanse and my diet/No I ain’t f–ked Drake — yet,” Lizzo sings over a bass-heavy opening. On the pre-chorus, she reminds listeners that there are more important things going on than her weight and her sex life:
Spendin’ all your time tryna break a woman down

Realer s–t is goin’ on, baby, take a look around
If you thought that I was ratchet with my ass hangin’ out
Just wait until the summer when they let me out the house
The record bursts into a funky, horn-heavy chorus. “Give ’em something to talk about,” Lizzo states. “Sick of rumors.” Next up is Cardi, who sounds equally irked by the constant online chatter about her. Or is she?
“All the rumors are true, yeah/Fake ass, fake boobs, yeah/Made a million at Sue’s, yeah/Y’all be running with fake news, yeah,” Cardi raps as her verse begins. She directly addresses the rumor that her chart-topping success is due to “payola“, the practice of bribing radio DJs in order to promote a particular song:
Nobody listen, they buyin’ them streams (Hmm)

“They hated on me since school,” Lizzo tells listeners. “I never thought I was cool. But now me and Cardi, we cool.” Even cooler is the inventive music video, inspired by Greek mythology and the Muses. Lizzo and Cardi both appear in the video, clad in resplendent gold and twerking up a storm. The video is included below:
